July 14, 2012 ~ 52 (Christmas) Card Throwdown- color challenge

Good morning!  I'm so glad you stopped by!  This is the card I made for this week's 52 Christmas Card Throwdown blog challenge.  This week's challenge is a fun one!  It's a color challenge and the colors are:  white, black, and a splash of blue.

I wanted to use an image that would be pretty enough to not color in entirely and I think this image is perfect.  I only used my bashful blue marker and I colored in the bird and I lightly colored in a bit here and there in the snowy areas.  After I was finished adding a bit of blue I decided to add some dazzling diamonds glitter all over the snowy area.  You can see how my glittery snow turned out in my photo below.

My main image panel is layered onto black card stock and then onto bashful blue card stock (I have dimensionals underneath my bashful blue layer.  The bottom of my bashful blue card stock was punched using my scallop border punch and I added my ribbon just above my punched border.  My sentient was stamped and punched out using my large oval and scallop oval punches.  My sentiment is also raised up using dimensionals.

I wanted to take a minute to explain how I embossed my background.  The northern flurry embossing folder has the embossing area only on the bottom left side, but I wanted the embossing to be over my entire background and in order to achieve this I began by taking my card stock and running it through my big shot like I normally would.  Then I removed my card stock, turned it around and placed my non embossed portion back inside my embossing folder and I ran it through my big shot machine again.

If you try this you will want to sort of stop once you reach the end of the embossing folder (you should be able to feel this as your are turning the handle).  This should help to not get a crease line on your card stock from the end of the embossing folder and make sure that when you are turning your card stock around to emboss the other end that you do not flip it over or you will end up with one side being embossed and the other side of your card stock will be debossed.

I hope you liked the card I made for today's challenge.  If you have time be sure to check out the other design team member's cards.  Thanks for stopping by!
