Ways to use Twine ~ July 16, 2012

Good Morning!  Today's clean & simple challenge on splitcoast stampers is to find ways to use twine.  I knew as soon as I saw the challenge that I wanted to pull out my kite stamp set and use the twine for the kite strings.

I stamped and cut out the kites and then I glued the twine on the back of the kites and then I placed them on my card using dimensionals.  I added three small pieces of twine on each strand which I thought would mimic bows that you sometimes see on kite strings.

The lucky limeade card stock along the bottom of my card was dry embossed using my big shot and my stripes embossing folder.  I wanted to keep the rest of my card simple so I decided to add my sentiment on a punched out scallop oval.

July 5, 2012 ~ Splitcoast Color Challenge

I have another card for you today!  I rarely ever participate in the colors challenges on splitcoast stampers and I think it's because I have it set in my mind that I'm really not good at them so today I decided to give it a try.  The colors for this week's challenge were:  White, Crumb Cake, and Calypso Coral.

I used a retired Stampin' Up! stamp set called branch and I stamped the tree using crumb cake and the leaves of the tree are stamped using calypso coral ink, but I ended up stamping off with some of the ink- that gives it different shades of the same color ink.

My background calypso coral card stock was dry embossed using my big shot and square lattice embossing folder.  The right side of my crumb cake card stock was punched using my scallop trim border punch and I added a few white dots using my white get pen.

My sentiment panel was stamped and then I notched out the ends using a 1" square punch.  I added a button with some calypso coral twine tied through the center and this layer was placed onto my card using dimensionals.

This is one of my favorite retired stamp sets!  I hope you liked my card!  See you tomorrow!

Wow, can you believe it's March already?  Only 20 more days until spring and I'm so looking forward to it!  I was in a spring sort of mood this morning when I was making this card.  I followed this week's Belli sketch challenge found here.  Below is a picture of the sketch-

We are also to use our old and forgotten embellishments.  Well, as I was going through my scrap bin and looking for some designer paper scraps to use to on my card; I found a new roll of crumb cake ribbon.  I didn't even know I had that ribbon, so it sure was forgotten and the real red button I used was older.  I remember buying those buttons with one of my very first Stampin' Up! orders.

The stamp set I used on my card today is a current set available in the occasions mini catalog called 'Send Me Soaring'.  I began making my card by stamping the kites and cutting them out.  Then on my main image panel I stamped the kite tails and then I adhered the kites on my card (I like how the kites are up above the image panel it looks pretty neat).  My image panel is placed onto my card using dimensionals.

For the three embellishments above my image panel I decided to go with some clouds.  Again, I stamped them and then cut them out and then I decided to add a touch of glitter along the edges of my clouds using a 2 way glue pen and some dazzling diamonds glitter.  I love this glitter; it's so shimmery and a little goes a long way.

Well, that's about it for my card the rest of it was just a matter of assembling it following the Belli sketch,  which by the way I thought was a great sketch- so different and it was easy to work with.

Hi everyone!  April Showers as the theme for this weeks Bugaboo Challenge and below is the sketch that we were to follow.

Everyone is welcome play along.  Come have fun and join us!  There's also a chance to win some of Bugaboo's awesome digi images!

This is my card for today's challenge.  I used the Bugaboo digi image Rainy Day Bears- Side Rain.  I printed the image, heat set it using my heat gun, and then colored it using my SU markers.

Once I was finished coloring my image I added a few dots on the umbrella using my white gel pen.  It's hard to see in my picture, but I also applied some crystal effects all over the bear's rain coat, it looks really cute in person.  I also did some paper piercing all along the green card stock layer around my main image panel.
 
My background is embossed using my cuttlebug and Swiss Dots embossing folder.  In the upper left corner I placed one small punched flower and two small 1/4" circles.

I didn't have any get well sentiments that were just the correct size for this sketch so I decided to print them out on my computer.  I find myself doing this more often lately when I can't seem to find just the right sentiment.

Well, we are getting snowed in today and I thought today would be a good day to spend some time and upload some cards into my Splitcoast card gallery. You can find my Splitcoast card gallery here if anyone would like to see it. I only started blogging about 8 months ago so there are lots of cards in my gallery that I haven't posted here on my blog.

The three cards that I'm uploading today were made for the closing ceremonies for the spring CAS DT. We were to create sketch cards based on three cards that Jen (Miss Boo) chose from her gallery.

My first card was made based on this card from Jen's gallery.

I used my Because of You stamp set and as I was looking at this stamp set I noticed the small background stamp and I thought it would be great for making my own pattern paper.

I just stamped that image randomly onto my card stock and then I colored in the flowers and dots using my SU markers.

Then I stamped my flower image and again colored it using my SU markers. The last thing I did was to add my ribbon and stamp my sentiment, easy peasy.

My second sketch card was based on this card from Jen's gallery.

This is another really easy card. I just colored my stamp using my SU markers and then I stamped my image onto my card stock.

For the flower border along the top part of my card I used the small tri-flower stamp and I only inked up the flower on the end of the stamp and I stamped it along the scalloped edge and I added a few dots in-between them.

In the bottom right corner I just stamped two butterflies. I was going to stamp and then cut them out, but I wanted my card to be quick and cutting out these butterflies was pretty intricate.

My last sketch card was based on this card from Jen's gallery. This card is called a topper card and this is the first topper card that I've ever made. The main part of my card measures 4" x 4" and I adjusted the topper part so that my finished card measures 4" x 5 1/2".

This was another easy card. I just stamped the boots, stems, and then the Easter Eggs. Next, I cut out my stamped image into a circle shape and then assembled my card.

Once my card was finished I decided to stamp and cut out a few Easter Eggs; I placed them just to the left side of my image.

I'm just now getting to my card for Friday's limited supply challenge. The challenge was to create a card based on the weather in our area. Well on Friday it was rainy here, so I decided to ink up my SU Rainy Days stamp set.

We were also to use 2/2/2 of something on our cards. My 2/2/2 items are: I used 2 stamped images (the girl and duck), I used 2 embellishments- ribbon and Crystal Effects, and I only used 2 colors of cardstock (except white of course).

I stamped the girl image and colored her using my SU markers and then I added Crystal Effects over her rain coat and boots. I did a little bit of water coloring using my SU watercolor crayons and aqua painter for the rain water on the ground.

My sentiment is from SU's Under the Weather stamp set and I thought it would go perfectly with my stamped images. I only inked up part of the sentiment stamp. I added a few score lines along the bottom of my card using my scor-pal and my ribbon was leftover from a scrapbook kit that I purchased at Wal-mart a few years ago. (I never throw anything away....LOL)

The Autumn CAS DT (Clean & Simple Design Team) search is under way. Here is the link if you would like some more information on how you can participate in the design team challenge cards. Jen has listed three different challenges that we are to create cards for.

The first challenge is a sketch challenge. The sketch from this card (made by girlydecou) is the sketch that we were to follow.

For my first card I used my SU stamp set Baroque Motifs. I just stamped the flourish stamp in the lower right corner and then I added some glitter over the thicker black swirls using my versamark marker and iridescent ice embossing powder (it's really hard to see in the picture, but it looks really pretty in person).

I decided to add a few small punched butterflies and a dab of liquid pears in the center. My ribbon is from Offray. I was thinking that this would make a great wedding card and that's why I decided to use the word cherish for my sentiment.

I made a second card for this sketch challenge. I decided to use an older SU stamp set called Wishing Well.

This card that I made was a super easy one. All I did was stamp my image and colored it using my SU markers. The wishing you well sentiment is from the same stamp set and my ribbon is from Offray.

I'll be posting the rest of my cards for the Autumn CAS DT in the next few days. I have them finished, but I didn't want to post them all in one post. I made two cards for the color challenge and I made four cards for the theme challenge.

Happy Monday! Today's clean & simple challenge is a faux (or real) stitching challenge. I'll have to try and make a card for that challenge tomorrow. I had signed up for a get well card swap and I almost forgot about it, so I decided that I'd better work on that card today because it's due pretty soon. I'm usually more prompt with my swap cards, but so far this summer has been super busy and more so because of our new baby.

I recently purchased the ribbon that I used on my card and I have so much of it that I decided to create my card around this ribbon. I used the larger flower from the SU stamp set Live Your Dream. I just colored the stamp using my SU markers and then stamped the stamp onto my paper.

For the dry embossing on the right side of my card I used the dots folder from the 'Just My Type' cuttlebug folder set. I ran the dots strip through my cuttlebug and then I added some score lines using my Scor-pal.

My sentiment is from SU's Great Greetings and my ribbon is from Offray. I really like the way my card turned out. I'm not usually a brights color person, but I think this works. Now I'm off to make five more of these.
