June 5, 2010 Crafty Gal's Challenge

Here's the second card I promised I would be posting today, but before I get started I wanted to remind you all that I have a few more spots in my 'in color' ribbon share.  For more details about that share please see my blog post found here.  I need 3 more people to fill my ribbon share group- cost is only $11 which includes shipping.

The blog group I belong to has a monthly challenge and this month it was Barb's turn to host.  We were to make Vacation cards using some patterned paper on our card--along with an additional embellishment or two.  Well, the truth is that my family and I don't really go on vacations.  In the last 15 years since I met my husband we went on 1 vacation and that was when we first met.  Okay, well maybe you can count our honeymoon, but other than that we are 'home bodies'.

So in sticking with the vacation theme of this challenge, I decided to make a card for a vacation I would love to go on.  I love the beach and the ocean (hubby really doesn't like the beach) and so I made this card with the thoughts of maybe someday we'll have another vacation at the shore.

I'm so out of my element with this card so I hope you like it!  I very rarely ever do any sort of distressing or water coloring and you've got them both on this card.  I began my stamping my image using brown stazon ink and then using my aqua painter and my ink pads (while the ink pad is closed squeeze it slightly together and that will create some ink to puddle up into the lid- and that's the ink  you can use for water coloring).  If you want your coloring to be a little more intense then all you need to do is to use less water.

I distressed the edges of my image panel by gently scraping my paper snips all along the edges and then I added some sponging.  I used these color ink pads for my water coloring-So Saffron, Baja Breeze, Soft Suede, and Cherry Cobbler.

The remaining part of my card is fairly simple.  I used my top note die and cut a small piece of cherry cobbler card stock and then I dry embossed it using my square lattice embossing folder.  To finish off my card my two embellishments are twine and a vanilla color button.

Today I'm planning on working on some party invitations so I'd better get started on them.  I'll post those tomorrow!  Have a great rest of the day!  If you have a minute and you would like to see the cards the other members of my blog group made I'll post the links below.
