52 Christmas Card Challenge~ Anything But a Card

Good morning!  Today's 52 Christmas Card Throwdown challenge is anything, but a card, tag, or ATC.  I love making these altered notebooks so for today's challenge I knew exactly what I wanted to do.  I posted a tutorial awhile ago about how I make these so if you would like to see my tutorial you will find it here.

In that tutorial you will see how I cover my notebook with designer series paper and how I fill the pen with matching paper.  To complete my notebook I used the Label Framelits for the layers behind the ornaments.  The gumball green and very vanilla layers were dry embossed using my square lattice embossing folder.

The ornaments were stamped and punched out using my ornament punch.  I did use a 3/4" circle punch for the image in the center of the raspberry ripple ornament.  I used dimensionals to raise up the ornaments.  Each ornament has a rhinestone jewel on it and I tied some twine around the top of the one gumball green ornament.

I decided to stamp the 'memories' sentiment and it is layered using oval punches.  I tied the sentiment onto my ribbon using twine and it's finished off with a bow.

Thank you so much for stopping by!  Be sure to visit the other 52 Christmas Card throwdown design team member's blogs and see what they've created!

Twisted Tuesday ~ Back to the Basics

Good Morning!  First, I have to say how fun this card was to make!  This is for today's Twisted Tuesday Challenge and the challenge this week is - Back to the Basics!  We were not allowed to use any tools, no big shot, no embossing, no punches, etc.  Yikes!  I remembered when I first started stamping and I didn't have a big shot or any dies, heck...I didn't even know what an embossing folder was!  I had so much fun making this card, I love making a card that has lots of stamping!

I used an older retired SU stamp set called Definitely Decorative Daisy.  This set is a 2 step stampin' set consisting of smaller and larger daisy images, leaves, centers, etc.  The stamps in this set are outline images as well as the solid (fill in) images.  I took a piece of white card stock and I began stamping the flower outlines using more mustard ink, then the leaf outline image using old olive ink.  Next, I stamped using the solid flowers using so saffron ink and then I used certainly celery ink to stamp in the solid leaf image.

Then I stamped all the flower centers using bravo burgundy ink.  When all my stamping was complete I took the small dotted stamp from the SU set itty bitty backgrounds and using more mustard ink I randomly stamped the small dots all over my entire stamped image area.  I wanted to tone down the white of my card stock and sort of fill in any empty (unstamped) areas I had.  You can also achieve this using a spritzer tool.  I love the look this gives!

Lastly, I added some glitter onto the flowers using my 2 way glue pen and some dd glitter and then I added my ribbon and stamped my sentiment.

Tip- keep in mind when you are stamping like this you want to stamp your images close together. It may look busy while you are doing your stamping, but once you cut your card stock it will no longer appear busy.

My finished layer sizes are:
Bravo Burgundy layer is- 3 1/4" x 5 1/8"
Flower Panels are- 1 5/8" x 3 1/8"

I hope you like the card I made for today's Twisted Tuesday challenge!  I hope you will play along!  Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

52 Christmas Card Throwdown ~ Eyelets

Good Morning!  It's time for another challenge on the 52 Christams Card Throwdown blog.  This week's challenge is an embellishment challenge and we are using eyelets.   I haven't use eyelets in such a long time, but this is a great challenge so lets dig them out and see how you can use them!

I wish I had the Stampin' Up! Peaceful Wishes stamp set, but I think the one I used is a close enough image for what I had in mind.  I decided to use red eyelets as berries on my image.

I began making my card by coloring my image using my SU markers and then stamping it onto my card stock.  Then I cut out my image using the label collection framelits and my big shot and then using my crop-a-dial I added a few of the red eyelets.  My image was then layered onto real red card stock and then using dimensionals it's layered again onto old olive card stock.
I added a strip of chocolate chip card stock (that was punched using the dotted ribbon scallop punch) behind my main image and my white background was dry embossed using my square lattice embossing folder.

To complete my card I added a small red bow and my sentiment which was layered using my oval punches.  My sentiment also has dimensionals underneath it.

I hope you liked my card using eyelets and I'm looking forward to seeing yours!  I hope you'll play along with us this week over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown!

Twisted Tuesday~ Flying By

Good Tuesday morning!  Today's Twisted Tuesday challenge is super fun!  This week we were to create a card/project with something on it that flies and the twist this week is to use at least 3 different embellishments.

I couldn't get this idea out of my head....that a witch could fly, plus Halloween is just around the corner and so this is what I came up with.  This card ended up being a bit trickier than I thought.  I used masking and reverse masking to make my card and try to explain it the best I can, but if you have any questions feel free to ask away.

I began by first stamping the witch image, the broom, and the cat using black ink.  Then I stamped the witch image and broom again onto a scrap piece of card stock and cut them out (I didn't worry about trying to cut the broom handle)- this will be your mask so that you won't end up sponging any yellow ink onto the witch.

Then took my cut out witch and broom pieces and placed them on top of images that were already stamped (you can use a temporary adhesive to hold them in place).  Next, I punched out a circle (I used a 1 3/4" punch) onto a scrap piece of card stock and using that card stock (with the punched circle) I placed it onto my card where I wanted the moon to be and I began my sponging.  I first sponged with some daffodil delight ink and then towards the edges of the moon I sponged lightly using more mustard ink.

Once I had my moon the way I wanted it I removed both masks and then I colored in the witch using my SU markers.  I didn't worry about trying to make a mask for the cat because I wanted his eyes to be yellow anyway.  Now to create my purple background I took the 1 3/4" circle that I had punched out and I placed that over top of the moon and witch image and I began sponging my background.  I also sponged pretty heavy along the edges using elegant eggplant.

That was the hard part and the rest of my card was fairly simple.  I stamped two clouds and cut them out and placed them on my card. My sentiment was stamped and punched using my word window punch and for the bottom of my card I used some retired Halloween dsp and I scored it every 1/4" using my simply score tool and then I placed it onto my card.

For the twist of today's challenge we were to use at least 3 different embellishments and I actually have 4.  I used daffodil delight ribbon, a basic gray button, white twine, and I have 3 small rhinestone gems placed on the witch's hat.

Sorry for the long post today, but I wanted to try and explain how I made my card.  If I have time later today I'll see if I can make a video so that you can see how I did all the masking.

Stamps: Out on a Limb, Teeny Tiny Wishes

Technique: Sponging, Masking, Reverse Masking

Edited to add- I made another card and a video showing you the masking and reverse masking technique.  I hope this helps!  Sometimes it's better to see the technique rather than trying to read how I did it.  Below is the card I made and beneath that is my video.

52 Christmas Card Throwdown Theme Challenge

It's good morning time, as my 3 year old would say...LOL  And it's time for another 52 Christmas Card Throwdown challenge and this week's challenge is a theme challenge and the theme is 'Gifts of the Season'.

I was debating on weather I wanted to use an image with gifts or make some punch art and since I love making punch art; I went ahead and decided to get out my punches!  The punches I used to make the gifts were:

Punches:
Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch- for the gift bow- cut the punch out in half
1 1/8" Square Punch- for the solid card stock (bottom) layer of the presents
1" Square Punch- for the DSP layer of the presents
Jewelry Tag Punch- for the sentiment
*To make the strips of paper for the ribbon on the presents I just cut those by hand*

Once my punch art was together I started assembling my card.  The presents were placed onto my embossed vanilla panel using dimensionals and the entire present panel (the chocolate chip layer) also has dimensionals under it.

My wild wasabi (and very vanilla) layer were embossed using my big shot and perfect polka dots embossing folder.   Along the bottom of my real red layer I used my scallop trim border punch and along the bottom of my very vanilla card layer I decided to add two rows of paper piercing.  I love adding paper piercing to my cards because it gives a little something extra without going overboard.

I hope you will play along with us this week!  The 52 Christmas Card Throwdown blog is one of my very favorite challenges and this week the other design team members had some really creative card ideas!

Have a great rest of the day!  My son has a soccer game and soccer pictures plus we are planning to clean up the yard and close up our pool so it looks like another busy weekend for us.

Halloween Medallion Wreath

Good Afternoon!  I recently made 2 of these wreaths and I though they turned out so cute for Halloween.  I made this wreath and I ended up making a second one except the second wreath I left off the ghost and bats.

I posted a tutorial on my blog awhile back on how I made these wreaths.  If you would like to see it you will find it here.  I made this wreath the same way as I made my last wreath except that I didn't layer the medallions because I wanted to try and get 2 complete wreaths from one pack of dsp and it worked out perfectly.  I was able to complete 2 wreaths using the rosette die and one full pack of the Howlstooth & Scaringbone Designer Series Paper (from the holiday catalog).

I have a few close up photos of my wreath shown below.  The ghosts are upside down owls and the bats are punched out using the bat punch and I just added some eyes on the bats using my white gel pen.  I tied some ribbon through the centers of the buttons.  I purchased the buttons from the Stampin' Up! clearance rack awhile ago.

Here is a photo of the back side of my wreath.  I've had some questions in the past about what the back side of my wreaths looks like and this time I remembered to take a photo of it.  I do use card board for my backing, but since one layer of card board isn't strong enough I cut out 2 layers and I glue them together, works like a charm.  If you want you can get fancy and cover the card board with ribbon or something, but I don't because I want to make sure that my lollies/medallions are glued really well onto the cardboard wreath base.

I tried something different with the hanging loop on my wreath and I think this worked out so much better.  I took a piece of twine and I tied it off leaving a loop for hanging the wreath.  Once I had my loop made I took the two ends below my knot and threaded them through the cardboard (you can even get the twine behind the medallion if you wanted) and then I tied off the ends.  Once my ends were tied off I was able to push up the ends up in-between the card board wreath frames and then I was sure to secure it using lots of glue.
I hope you liked the wreath I made!  Feel free to pass along my blog post and share it with your friends.  Remember once I reach 300 followers I will be giving away a Stampin' Up! gift certificate :)

Have a great day!  I'll be back tomorrow morning with my 52 Christmas Throwndown blog post.

Spider Tags

Well today's the day!  I'm finally finished with my 100 cards in 100 days goal and I'll be the first to admit that it was much harder than I thought it was going to be.  I had some catching up to do last week, but I made it and these two cards and this completes my goal!  Thank you to those of you who have been following me along with this challenge!

I've been busy making some Halloween cards lately and so I thought I would ink up a stamp that's never been used before.  These cards were really easy to make.  Simply stamp the images, layer them with the tag punches and assemble your cards.

My background was dry embossed using the spider web embossing folder and my tags were placed on my card using dimensionals.  I used my scallop border punch for the white card stock layer towards the bottom of my card.

Technique: Dry Embossing

And this is my last card for my goal.  I must apologize for this photo being blurry.  I don't have this card anymore to retake this photo.

Again, I stamped the spider image, layered them using my tag punches, and then I assembled my card. My tags were placed on my card using dimensionls.  I used my eyelet border punch on the black card stock towards the bottom of my card.  My background was dry embossed using my perfect polka dots embossing folder and just below the embossing I added two rows of dry embossing using my simply score tool.

Thank you so much for stopping by!  Be sure to check back again tomorrow I will be posting some photos of a Halloween medallion wreath I made.  Have a wonderful day!

Simply Pumpkins

Good evening!  I'm nearing the end of my 100 cards in 100 days goal.  This has been so much harder than I thought it was going to be, but the great thing about it was getting the chance to use stamps that I never used before.  And that brings me to my cards for today.  This stamp set was new and this is the first time I'm using it.

I simply stamped the pumpkin image three times and punched them out and layered them using my square punches.  My background is embossed using the spider web embossing folder.

This card was made the same way and my card above except the layout is a little different and I ended up using dimensionals under my stamped images.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Tomorrow I'll be posting the last of the cards I made for my goal of 100 cards in 100 days!

Splitcoast Color Challenge

Here's another card I made today towards my 100 cards in 100 days goal.  I made this for today's color challenge on splitcoast stampers.  I love these colors together and I'm glad I found some time to play along.

I simply stamped the flower and leaf images and then I stamped my sentiment and next I added my ribbon.  Super quick and easy!

I really liked the way my card above turned out and so I decided to go ahead and try making another one.  This color combo came from the color coach and I love it!  I'll have to use this one again for sure!

To make this card I just stamped my images, added my sentiment, and a few pearls!

Twisted Tuesday Challenge ~ Patriot Day

Good Morning!  Today's Twisted Tuesday challenge is in remembrance of 911, Patriot Day.  The challenge this week is to create a sympathy or thinking of you card/project in honor of Patriot Day, a day in the US when we remember those that died on 9/11/01.  There is no crafty twist on the challenge this week.

I used a retired Stampin' Up! stamp called 'God Bless America'.  I cut the flag stamp apart and I made it so that I could use this stamp easier.  The stripes portion of the stamp and the heart portion of the stamp are cut apart so all I needed to do was to ink up and stamp.  I stamped the image and then I decided to add my ribbon along the left side.   I stamped and punched out my sympathy sentiment and I tied it on the ribbon.  The flag image layer was sponged all along the edges and it is popped up using dimensionals.  Below my flag image layer, I added a piece of white card stock that was punched using my scallop border punch.

The wording paper on my background is actually the words from 'God Bless America' and I printed them out using my computer.  I sponged around the edges to sort of give it that distressed look.   I then punched out three small flowers, one red, white, and blue and I added a basic pearl in the center of them.  I used the spring bouquet punch for these daisy flowers and they were placed on my card using dimensionals.

Also, just a reminder....Melina is currently looking for some new design team members.  If you are interested in applying please see her blog post found here.

I hope you liked my card today!  Thank you so much for stopping by!  And a great big thank you to my new followers.

Gently Falling

I'm finishing up my 100 cards in 100 days goal and with that in mind I decided to ink up a stamp set that I've never used before.  I also went through my scrap bin and picked out what I thought might work on my cards.

I stamped the thanks flower image using pink pirouette ink (sorry the pink image is hard to see in my photo) and then I layered it onto basic gray card stock.  My white card stock was dry embossed using the perfect polka dots embossing folder (I had this piece in my scrap bin already embossed).  The bottom of my dsp was punched using my scallop border punch and then all I did to complete my card was to add my ribbon.

And here's the second card I made using this stamp set.  I decided to use this leaf image and create a fall card.  Again, all the pieces on my card were scraps from my scrap bin; even the embossed pieces were scrap.

I stamped the main image once onto my card stock and then I stamped it again on a scrap piece of card stock and then I cut it out and placed it over top of my first stamped image using dimensionals.  I decided to add some ribbon just below my stamped image and that was about it.

I hope you like my cards! Be sure to stop on by tomorrow morning because Melina has a beautiful challenge for tomorrow's Twisted Tuesday challenge.

52 Christmas Card Throwdown Color Challenge

Good Morning!  This week's 52 Christmas Card Throwdown challenge is a color challenge.  This is an awesome color challenge this week so I hope you'll join us and play along.  The colors are:  brown, red, and cream or white.
I began making my card by stamping the dasher image, and by the way, I love this image!  Then I layered my image onto chocolate chip card stock and I added some glitter on the antlers.

My real red layer was dry embossed using my final press embossing folder and my big shot.  My scallop chocolate chip border was created using the adorning accents edgelits and just along the bottom of my card I decided to add two rows of paper piercing.  Along the top left side of my card I added three small silver brads and then to finish off my card I added my sentiment.

To create the bottom chocolate chip layer under my sentiment I punched out 2 punches using some chocolate chip card stock and my decorative label punch.  Then I cut one of the punch outs in half vertically and the other one was cut in half horizontally and all I did was to adhere them behind my real red layer leaving just enough room around the egdes so that I would have a nice chocolate chip border.  The back side of my sentiment it is pieced together, but no one will see the back side so that's okay.  To adhere my sentiment onto my card I used two dimensionals on the left side.  I didn't need to use any dimensionals underneath the right side of my sentiment since it was pretty level with the layered dasher image.

*card #90 out of 100 cards in 100 days goal

Stamps:  Dasher, Holiday & Wishes
Card Stock:  Very Vanilla, Real Red, Chocolate Chip, DSP- Holly Berry Bouquet
Ink:  Chocolate Chip
Supplies:  Ribbon, SU Mat Pack, Paper Piercing Pack, Decorative Label Punch, Wide Oval Punch, Silver Mini Brads, Big Shot, Final Press Embossing Folder, Adorning Accent Edgelits, 2 Way Glue Pen, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, Dimensionals
Technique:  Dry Embossing, Paper Piercing

I loved this color combo so much that I decided to make another card.  I stamped my image and colored it using my SU markers.  My image is layered using the label collection framelits dies. I used the same size die for the image layer and the real red and second white layer.  The red layer is just turned sideways and the white layer I cut in half and placed behind my red layer.  The brown layer is the next bigger size and it's also dry embossed.

My sentiment is also made up of a few layers.  My sentiment is cut out with the smallest size framelits die and then it's layered onto 1 modern label punch (it is also cut in half and then spread apart to create the layer) and then that is layered onto a chocolate chip decorative label punch.  I added a small silver brad on each end of the modern label punch.

The designer series paper I used is from the same sheet.  I used the polka dot side in the center of my card and on the back side of the same sheet of dsp is the circle pattern.  I sometimes try to use the same dsp or papers from the same pack.  It makes matching up the colors so easy.

I have dimensionals behind my sentiment and I decided to add some ribbon onto my card.

1" Square Punch- for the present/box
Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch- for the bow on the present. The red ribbon strips on the present were cut by hand.

To make the rest of my card I used the large tree image from the SU 'Snow Swirled' stamp set.  I stamped the tree image all over onto the background of my card using lucky limade ink.  I also stamped the lucky limeade card stock that I punched out for the present.  I love that my background matches the present, it looks pretty neat!

The rest of my card was just a matter of assembling it and adding my ribbon.  I hope you liked my penguin punch art card!  Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great rest of the day!

Halloween Cards

Good evening!  I had some time today to put together a few Halloween cards.  I was trying to use up some of my paper scraps and sometimes that forces me to come up with some new layouts.  I hope you like my Halloween cards!

I had a scrap die from the labels framelits and I decided to stamp my skeleton image on that scrap piece of card stock and then I decided to cut straight around the top and both sides, but I left the bottom untouched which is why the bottom portion of my main image panel has the border from the framelit die.

My pumpkin was stamped using old olive ink and then stamped again using pumpkin pie ink. I cut out both pumpkins, but on the orange layer I cut off the stem and then I placed that over top of my green stamped pumpkin- that gave me my pumpkin with the green stem. You could use your SU markers, but sometimes it looks nicer to stamp your images.

The bottom of my pumpkin pie card stock was punched using my scallop border punch and the rest of my card was just a matter of assembling it. There is a dimensional under the pumpkin image.

I made my pumpkin on this card the same way and I did on my card above.  Again, on this card I was trying to use up some paper scraps that I had.  For my embellishment I decided to use a clear bitty button and behind it I placed a punched out circle of cajun craze card stock.  I sometimes do that when I don't have a button the exact color that I need.

I then wrapped some white twine around my basic gray card stock and then I finished it off by tying it with a bow.  I have dimensionals under my skeleton layer.

My background on this card is embossed using my big shot and my spider web embossing folder.  Again, here I was trying to use up some paper scraps.  I'm not sure I would normally use these colors together, but I think it works for Halloween.

My images were stamped and punched out using my circle punches and I used my scallop border punch along the edge of my wild wasabi card stock towards the left hand side of my card.  That's about it for this card, super quick and easy!

Again, with this card my images were stamped and punched out using my circle punches.  I was trying to use up some more scraps on this card too.  I like the mix of designer series papers on this card.

My center image (the pumpkin) is adhered using dimensionals.  The bottom portion of my striped designer series paper was punched using my scallop border punch.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope you had a great day!

Pumpkin Cards

I'm back today with a few more cards.  I'm trying to catch up on my goal of 100 cards in 100 days and I'm so close so I'm not about to give up now!  I decided to make a few fall and Thanksgiving cards.

This card I made using a punch art pumpkin I have left over from the video I made recently.  Here is my blog post with the video showing how to make this pumpkin.  I began by punching out three scallop ovals and sponged all along the edges.  Then using the 2 step bird punch I created the leaf curls and the leaves and that's about it for this card, my layout is fairly simple.  I was trying to use up some scraps.

Stamps:  Holiday & Wishes
Card Stock:  Pumpkin Pie, Very Vanilla, Old Olive, DSP- Spice Cake
Ink:  Chocolate Chip, More Mustard
Supplies:  2 Step Bird Punch, Stylus Tool, Tombow Multi Glue, Scallop Oval Punch, Sponge, Coluzzle- for cutting out the circle layers, Stamp-a-ma-jig
Technique: Punch Art, Sponging

To make this card I stamped my image and colored it using my SU markers.  I used the colors- pumpkin pie, daffodil delight, and old olive.  My sentiment was stamped and punched out using a portion of the curly label punch.  My old olive layer was punched using my scallop trim border punch and that's about it for this card.  Super quick and easy!

Here's another pumpkin card I made using the same image, but on this card my layout is a little different and I used my big shot to emboss my old olive layer.  Again, my sentiment was stamped and punched out using only a portion of the curly label punch and my image was colored using SU markers- pumpkin pie, daffodil delight, and old olive.

First Day of Play School

Today was my youngest daughter's first day of play school and I just had to share a photo of her.  Aubrey had such a great time and she can't wait to go again tomorrow, but she's so tired from school that fell asleep while she was playing.  She's growing up so fast! Pin It

Twisted Tuesday~ Cards for those you love

Good morning!  Today's Twisted Tuesday challenge is to create a card or project for someone you love and the twist is to use bright colors.  I decided to make this card for my teenage daughter and I'm going to put it in her lunch bag so that she'll find it at lunch time.

My tempting turquoise background is dry embossed using my perfect polka dots embossing folder and then I stamped and cut out the hot air balloons and placed them on my card.  Some of them are popped up using dimensionals.  I also stamped and cut out a few clouds and then I added some glitter on the clouds.

The lower portion of my card has a real red and daffodil delight layers.  My real red layer is punched using the eyelet border punch and I added a few white dots using my white gel pen.  I also added some white ribbon and my sentiment is layered using my designer label punch, then my word window punch, and topped off using my 1" circle punch.  I decided to place a red brad on both sides of my sentiment (on the word window layer).

Melina is having a design team call for her Twisted Tuesday challenge blog.  Click here for more information about her design team call.

Snow Angels

I wanted to make another card for this week's sketch challenge on the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown blog.  (See my blog post below for a picture of the sketch).

It's very rare that I pull out my sewing machine, but on this card I decided to.  On the background of my card I went all along the edges three times with my sewing machine.  My sewing isn't straight and it was meant to be wavy and curvy.

My stamped image was colored using my SU markers and then I added some glitter.  For my embellishment I wrapped some twine around my card stock three times and then tied it off with a bow and that's about it.

Have a great rest of the weekend!

52 Christmas Card Throwdown ~ Sketch

Good Morning!  This week's 52 Christmas Card Throwdown blog challenge is a sketch challenge.  I love sketch challenges, they are my favorite and this week is a fantastic sketch!  Below is a picture of the sketch.
I began making my card by first stamping the green tree image and then I stamped the image again using rose red ink.  I then punched out some of the snowflakes using my circle punches and placed them on top of my original green tree image.  I used dimensionals to adhere the snowflakes onto my card and I placed rhinestone gems in the center of the snowflakes

The rest of my card was simply a matter of assembling it.  My sentiment was stamped and punched out using my scallop oval punch and then layered onto a punched out oval using my wide oval punch.  Underneath my sentiment are dimensionals.

I hope you have a wonderful day!  I'm going to try and post another card later today.  I need to catch up on my 100 cards in 100 days goal.  Be sure to stop on by the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown blog to see the other design team member's cards.
