August 13, 2010

My mother in law and my husband's grandmother took my son out yesterday to do some school shopping.  They spent the entire day together, shopping, trying on clothes, and then they had lunch at The Olive Garden.

I wanted to make them both a thank you card (from my son) and so this is what I came up with.  Although my cards are similar, they are a little bit different.  My layout and sentiments are different, as well as the color of ribbon I used and the sneakers.

I used the little boy image from SU's Kids At Play stamp set (I thought it resembled my son).  I first stamped the image and then I colored it using my SU markers.  The jean shorts I made using a technique called paper piecing.

To make them look like real jeans I used my SU background stamp called Just Jeans.  I inked up my background stamp using brocade blue ink and then I stamped it onto a scrap piece of card stock.  Then I inked my boy stamp using black stazon ink and I stamped that over my 'jeans' image.  Next, I needed to do was cut out the shorts part of the image and then place that over top of my original (already colored in) image.

For the shirt I colored it using my real red marker and then I added a few white lines using my white gel pen.  My son really does have a shirt that looks like this!

The upper half of my background was embossed using my Cuttlebug and Swiss Dots embossing folder and since my cards will be from my son I decided not to add any sort of fancy ribbon treatment or bow.  I decided to go with a more simple ribbon knot tied onto a spiral clip.

Aren't these darling. I know they are pretty much identical but the top one really catches your eye with the stripes at the side.
